This Event has Passed
Lyndon B. Johnson took over the Presidency in November 1963 after JFK's assassination. He also took over the handling of the crisis in Vietnam, which America had been dealing with since the end of the 1940s. Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy seemed unsure how far we should get involved. By the summer of 1964, the Gulf of Tonkin incident would change everything and set our nation on a course towards a war we didn't want.
