Join artist Hamilton Glass for RVA Community Makers 2024 for hands-on creation of this year’s public art project. Glass will lead a collaborative workshop to design a quilt-inspired paper collage on a large-scale panel.
All are welcome to contribute to the collage. Add visual representations of your story (e.g., your favorite organization, a historical event, your family name, your personal story or values).
This collective project will later be displayed alongside a quilt by Unicia Buster. Buster’s creation will weave together the stories and passions of the 2024 honorees of RVA Community Makers, using the most timeless and transcending mediums in African American history—quilting.
RVA Community Makers public-art installation is inspired Dawoud Bey: Elegy on view through Feb 25. Mesmerizing and evocative, the exhibition’s 42 photographs and two film installations contemplate the harrowing journeys and human realities of early African Americans.
