The Richmond Philharmonic presents "Reflection and Reformation"

The RPO is very excited to announce its last Master Works concert for the 2023-2024 season; we would love it if you could join us for "Reflection and Reformation"! This concert celebrates the 50th anniversary (almost to the day!) of the very first complete and independent concert by the Richmond Philharmonic that took place on May 12, 1974. The program we have curated for our season closer combines works that were featured on that concert a half-century ago, including the Couperin “Overture and Allegro” (orchestrated by Milhaud), Ravel’s “Pavane for a Dead Princess,” and the “Reformation” Symphony by Mendelssohn. Combined with this “Reflection” on our origins, the RPO will also perform works that have never been programmed in its history — Vivaldi’s Concerto for 2 Trumpets featuring our very own Matt Stevens and Jack Price, as well as the “Lithuanian Rhapsody,” Op. 11 by Karlowicz. We invite everyone to join in our celebration of the past while looking to the next 50 years of great music-making by the Richmond Philharmonic! As always, we will be holding a pre-concert talk at 3pm with music director Peter Wilson and VPM classical host Mike Goldberg. Richmond Philharmonic concerts are free. We'd love to see you there! (Please note that this concert is on a Saturday, NOT our usual Sunday concert time).
