27 Years, A Selection | Matt Lively

Most living artists don’t like the idea of a retrospective. They may think it is like a curse, or it signifies an end to their career and it is understandable. Matt has this “retrospective” framed more as a snapshot of his career rather than anything definitive. “The Wind Chill Factory”, “Fable of the Transatlantic Tube Train”, “Playfield”, and Matt’s favorite painting “Supermom”, plus so much more are already possible selections for Lively’s first look back of his oeuvre. The work available for this exhibit spans 27 years which doesn’t represent his entire career but DOES represent Matt’s lucky number and his first Beecycle painting. (1997) This exhibit could be immense as Lively sent a quick text to Jennifer Glave excitedly stating, “Every time I turn around in the barn, I find new old paintings that I forgot about, We have SO many options.” Fortunately, Glave Kocen Consulting has an incredible new partner, Gramophone, a Richmond-based winery, which will house this sizable exhibit and they are over the moon about collaborating. “Wow. This is going to be an epic show with so much Matt Lively history,” begins Justin Laughter co-owner of Gramophone. “We’re thrilled to display this significant and wonderful show and can’t wait to see it!” OPENING RECEPTION | March 21st | 6:00-9:00PM Gramophone | 4827 Forest Hill Avenue
