The Calm Before the Storm: The Story of the 1800 Slave Rebellion featuring Valerie Davis

Gabriel Prosser led the 1800 rebellion in Virginia. His devoted wife Nan knew of his plans. Come and listen to award-winning Storyteller Valerie Davis as she embodies Nan's spirit and shares the story of the night before the rebellion was to begin. Nan will take you on a journey in search of freedom for the enslaved population mapped out by Gabriel. The story of Gabriel and Nan is inspiring. Death or Liberty, Gabriel would have one or the other.... About Valerie Davis A gifted actor, storyteller, playwright, and producer, Valerie Davis uses her talents to promote awareness of lesser-known historical events and people. With an extensive background in independent films and stage productions, Valerie is known for her historical interpretations of women of courage, channeling her theater background to bring characters such as Coretta Scott King, Harriet Tubman, and Martha Ann Fields to life. IBe Crawley, a visual artist and storyteller, will do a short presentation, on her hand-crafted book "Delia Posey" which tells the story of an enslaved girl at Mount Vernon. IBe will share the story, the nature of making books, and do a show-and-tell of sorts and answer questions.
