The UNR Percussion Ensemble, World Percussion Ensemble, Northern Nevada All-Star High School Percussion Ensemble, and guest vibraphonist Sean Collins and the Folktet will present a concert at Nightingale Hall on Friday, March 8, at 7:30pm.
The event is unique because it focuses on percussion. Percussionists are often seen in the back of the band or orchestra providing accompaniment for the ensemble. This event features percussionists in the context of a percussion ensemble or as percussion soloists or in a chamber ensemble. A collection of Marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, bells, and chimes will be featured along with standard orchestral percussion instruments such as snare drum, timpani, cymbals, tambourine, triangle, castanets, woodblocks. The World Percussion Ensemble will feature samba inspired percussion music and percussion instruments from Brazil. The 7:30 pm concert on Friday March 10th will feature The UNR Percussion Ensemble and the Northern Nevada All-Star High School Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Andrew Heglund; the UNR World Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Chance Utter; and guest vibraphonist Sean Collins and the Folktet.
