Sea Songs and Rivers Dancing! by the Reno Pops Orchestra, March 4 @ 2:00 p.m., Nightingale Hall UNR

The year 1983 in the city of Reno, Nevada was special for many reasons. One of the best was the foundation and debut of the Reno Pops Orchestra, a group of all-volunteer musicians who came together from all walks of life (high school and college students, working adults, school music teachers, retired folks, etc.) to share their love of and dedication to music and to perform professional-level literature under an accomplished conductor. Much has changed in Reno since 1983, the Reno Pops Orchestra has not only endured all these forty years, weathering the ups and downs, it has blossomed into a rich local musical resource with global influence. The group’s regular season stages five concerts** from late fall through mid-summer that feature delightful themes and brings together musicians, singers, dancers, ensemble groups and celebrities from around the world – all eager to perform for the community purely for the delight it brings. They also perform every summer at Barley Ranch Park during Reno’s Artown celebration. Their community outreach programs feature a summer music camp, scholarships, and a Solo and Concerto Festival for local music groups to perform. Most far-reaching of all is the Composer’s Showcase, which invites composers from all over the world to submit their works to the Pops for evaluation and trying out. **The next Reno Pops Orchestra concert, “Sea Songs and Rivers Dancing,” will feature classic works by Strauss (The Blue Danube)¸Debussy (La Mer), fun songs from family movie favorites, a guest soloist, and Riverdancers! Saturday, March 4, 2023 @ 2:00 p.m., Nightingale Concert Hall, UNR.
