LIVE, IN-PERSON: UPCOMING BRYN MAWR AND HAVERFORD THEATRE PROGRAM PERFORMANCES

THEATER PROGRAM OF BRYN MAWR AND HAVERFORD COLLEGES PRESENTS GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES, NOVEMBER 12-14, 18-20

Guest Director Akeem Davis Leads an Ensemble Cast in the Theater Program’s First Live Performance Since the Pandemic

BRYN MAWR, PA – Gruesome Playground Injuries, by Rajiv Joseph, is the fast-paced, intense story of Kayleen and Doug, two characters whose intertwined histories and romantic run-ins play out over scenes that span thirty years of their lives. An ensemble of actors from Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges will bring this poignant story to life by inhabiting the two characters at their varied ages.

What is love, and how exactly do you do it right? Why is it so easy to do it wrong? How do we overcome our instincts to sabotage relationships we cherish the most? The play is a complex conversation about the gruesome nature of intimacy itself: Intimacy—progeny of proximity and cultivator of conflict. Bouncing between the characters’ grade school interactions and adult clashes, the play races toward a desperately consequential final reckoning in their lives.

Guest director Akeem Davis is a Philadelphia-based Barrymore Award winning and Helen Hayes nominated actor. Originally from Miami, Florida, and a graduate of Florida State University, Davis’s regional credits include work at the Arden Theatre Company, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, Folger Theatre, and many others. In addition to his teaching and directing work with the Theater Program of Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges, Davis is currently teaching at Temple University.

Performances are free and open to the public and will take place November 12-14 and 18-20, 2021 at 7:30 pm in the Hepburn Teaching Theater (Goodhart Hall, Bryn Mawr College). Opening night is Friday, November 12. Reservations can be made online at https://brynmawr.wufoo.com/forms/theater-reservations/, via email to [email protected], by phone at (610) 526-5300, and in person at the Bryn Mawr College Office for the Arts (Goodhart Hall).
