“The Poet’s Toolbox: Becoming a Better Writer” Masterclass @ Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club
The Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club, a distinctive, AAA Four Diamond hotel property located on Duke University's campus, is hosting a free masterclass, titled “The Poet’s Toolbox: Becoming a Better Writer,” Thursday, Feb. 22 from 5-7 p.m. in the hotel’s Vista Restaurant. Led by Author Sarah Rose Nordgren, guests will explore the three foundational tools of the poet that, when used effectively, will make their writing in any setting more powerful, memorable and vivid.

Nordgren, a poetry teacher who resides in Durham, North Carolina, is the author of the poetry collections Darwin’s Mother and Best Bones, the prose chapbook The Creation Museum and the forthcoming nonfiction book Feathers: A Bird-Hat Wearer’s Journal, winner of the Essay Press Book Prize. Her poems and essays have appeared in American Poetry Review, Kenyon Review, Ploughshares and Narrative, and have been featured by PBS Newshour, The Slowdown podcast, Poetry Daily and elsewhere.
Nordgren’s masterclass is part of the “Dive Into Durham” Masterclass Series – a free weekly program hosted by the Inn and the neighboring JB Duke Hotel in which experts from across the Triangle area share their professional insights and insider tips to help hotel guests and community members develop personally and professionally. Interested participants can explore the additional class offerings via the registration link above, including “Intro to Birding,” “How to Build and Monetize a Following on Social Media” and “The Principles of Interior Design.
