The Shops at Skyview, a multi-level shopping destination in Queens, New York (https://www.theshopsatskyviewny.com), will host a creative four-week “Skyview High”-themed series of events designed to immerse area teens and young adults in some of the most vibrant and captivating facets of Asian culture, art and food from late July through the end of August. Participants who take part in the first three events will have an opportunity to earn “credits” that will allow them to attend a by-invitation-only commencement ceremony on August 30th where K-pop sensation Kang Daniel will make a special appearance. To showcase the fun side of Asian culture, the center’s first event, “Cultural Electives,” held on Thursday, July 24th, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Level 4, will offer a K-pop dance performance, a Taekwondo demonstration, a live K-pop DJ set, Asian snack tasting, a fun claw machine and two competitions: a K-pop dance cover challenge and a student ID uniform photobooth and style competition. To take part in the K-pop dance cover challenge, guests are asked to take videos of themselves and their friends dancing to their favorite K-pop music and post them on Instagram, tagging @theshopsatskyviewny and #SkyviewHigh. Five finalists (individuals or groups) will be selected to compete on site during the Cultural Electives event on July 24th. The winning performer or group will join K-pop star Kang Daniel on stage on August 30th and receive a $500 Skyview gift certificate. To participate in the student ID uniform challenge, contestants are asked to don their most unique uniform, then take a student ID-style photo at the onsite photo booth during the Cultural Electives event. Photos will be shared online for public voting; eight finalists will be selected to join the Commencement ceremony on stage with Kang Daniel on August 30th. Throughout the Skyview High event series, the center will also host a charitable school supply drive; guests are encouraged to donate new school supplies by placing them in the Skyview High yellow locker on Level 4 at The Shops at Skyview. The Cultural Electives event is free of charge and open to the public. However, space is limited and pre-registration is recommended: https://www.theshopsatskyviewny.com/events.
