City Year Providence's Red Jacket Gala

Please join us at the City Year Providence Red Jacket Gala to celebrate 30 years of service and impact in Rhode Island. The main goal of this event is to raise critical funds that will help further the mission of City Year Providence, to support students in our public schools to ensure that every student can thrive. This event is an opportunity to witness the transformative power of service and impact. Attendees will also have the chance to network with local education champions and hear first-hand accounts from Student Success Coaches, alums, students, and teachers about the impact of City Year Providence. We invite you to join us in honoring the past, celebrating the present, and envisioning the future of City Year Providence. City Year Providence Red Jacket Gala Honorees Service to a Cause Greater than Self Award: U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse Recognized for his instrumental role in the founding of City Year in Rhode Island, Senator Whitehouse's advocacy and support have been foundational. His influence extends beyond City Year Providence (R.I.), championing social justice, environmental stewardship, and bipartisan solutions that benefit the entire United States. Through his dedication, Senator Whitehouse has advocated for causes close to our hearts and shown us how visionary leadership can bridge divides and catalyze positive change on a national scale. Ubuntu Award for Community Impact: Weayonnoh Nelson-Davies As a City Year alum (1997-1999) and a beacon of people-powered change, Weayonnoh embodies the essence of Ubuntu, a profound philosophy originating from the Zulu tribe of South Africa, which teaches, "I am a person through other people; my humanity is tied to yours." This principle, deeply embedded in empathy, solidarity, and mutual respect, underscores the interconnectedness of all individuals. Weayonnoh's unwavering commitment to fostering equitable policies and championing community empowerment exemplifies the very best of what it means to live by Ubuntu, demonstrating how collective action and shared humanity can drive meaningful change. Bridge Builder Award: Alan Harlam: As one of City Year Providence's most enduring board members, Alan Harlam has been instrumental in fostering community connectivity and inclusivity, exemplifying the profound impact of a collaborative spirit. His steadfast commitment to service leadership and youth empowerment, coupled with a passion for social entrepreneurship, has catalyzed a movement towards a more inclusive, empowered Rhode Island. Through his visionary efforts, Alan has built enduring bridges of hope and opportunity, transforming the landscape of community engagement and setting a benchmark for impactful leadership across the state.
