Service to a Cause Greater than Self Award: U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse
Recognized for his instrumental role in the founding of City Year in Rhode Island, Senator Whitehouse's advocacy and support have been foundational. Ubuntu Award for Community Impact: Weayonnoh Nelson-Davies
As a City Year alum (1997-1999) and a beacon of people-powered change, Weayonnoh embodies the essence of Ubuntu, a profound philosophy originating from the Zulu tribe of South Africa, which teaches, "I am a person through other people; my humanity is tied to yours." This principle, deeply embedded in empathy, solidarity, and mutual respect, underscores the interconnectedness of all individuals.
