Chamber Orchestra of Barrington at St. John's- Free Concert--Sunday, Nov. 9 at 3 pm

Join us on Sunday, November 9 at 3 pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 191 County Road, Barrington, for the second concert in the Chamber Orchestra of Barrington at St. John’s 9th season. The program, Voices of Power: Beethoven, Bloch and Farrenc, opens with Beethoven’s, Prometheus Overture, which stands among his most highly regarded works, yet it is rarely performed in New England. Gideon Rubin, Head of the Piano Department at the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School, will join us as the soloist for Ernst Bloch’s, Concerto Grosso No. 1—a piece premiered a century ago in Cleveland by one of the most prominent European composers of Jewish heritage. The concert concludes with a rarely heard symphony by one of the great women composers of the Romantic era: Louise Farrenc’s, Third Symphony, a work that powerfully demonstrates the dramatic range and expressive potential of the orchestra. COBSJ is proud to champion timeless works by distinguished women composers of the past, continuing our commitment to diversifying the musical landscape among performing ensembles in New England. In appreciation of St. John’s Episcopal Church, which graciously partners with COBSJ as the orchestra’s artistic home, attendees are encouraged to bring a canned food item for the church’s Outreach program. Admission is free, but pay-what-you-can contributions at the door are most welcome. To support COBSJ online, please visit www.cobsj.org/donate
