SCLT’s Urban Agriculture Kick-Off – lovingly called UAKO by those in the know – has been a staple of the urban agriculture scene in Providence for years. In 2025, we welcome urban farmers, backyard gardeners, and regenerative agriculture enthusiasts to SCLT’s headquarters and Healthy Food Hub and to the Fox Point Community Garden to honor the coming season. Gather with community at your choice of two locations: 404 Broad Street or 256 Power Street in Providence on Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 11:00am to 1:00pm for this free and family-friendly event, open to the public. This event is rain or shine.
📍 404 Broad Street | SCLT's Healthy Food Hub
⏰ 11am: Black Food Liberation - all are welcome to continue the community building started in Food Justice 101, hosted by @roots2empower's Tarshire Battle
⏰ 12pm: Spring Garden Readiness - everything you need to know to start growing this spring, hosted by @southsideclt's Rich Pederson and Ellen Asermely
📍 256 Power Street | @foxpointcommunitygarden

⏰ 12pm: Dividing Perennials - demonstrations of different techniques to make your plants thrive year after year, hosted by Master Gardener Nancy Weiss-Fried
UAKO features workshops and seed giveaways. Bring your most burning urban agriculture-related questions to our “Ask the Expert” table and find out how to give your native pollinator garden a boost or how to finally get that stubborn shrub to grow.
Attendees may also sign up for annual SCLT Membership at UAKO, which includes 50 gallons of organic compost (a $110 value). Those who include the free compost with their annual SCLT Membership will be able to take home high-quality, organic compost from the event. Remember, this is a BYOB event: Bring Your Own Bucket! The compost pickup area will be 10 Linden Street, directly adjacent to SCLT headquarters. Volunteers will be available to help with loading compost. SCLT Members will find information about other pickup sites in their membership letter.
