The Nature of the Maya World

Join the Friends of the Dartmouth Libraries on Thursday, March 9, at 6:30 p.m. for a tropical travel/nature talk with naturalist and photographer Joy Marzolf. Joy will guide audience members into the heart of the Mayan civilization, which originated about 2600 BC and was still prominent in Mesoamerica in 250 AD. They will visit ancient ruins and caves used by the Maya, learn about the origins of chocolate, and see amazing wildlife, including colorful birds and butterflies, monkeys, iguanas, and more. The program will be held at Southworth Library with an option for virtual participation on Zoom. Joy Marzolf offers a variety of educational programs for adults and children through her organization, The Joys of Nature. She also leads marine-related trips for the Oceanic Society. Ms. Marzolf was a naturalist and educator at Mass Audubon’s Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary for 13 years and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. The presentation will be held at the Southworth Library at 732 Dartmouth Street, Dartmouth. Audience members who plan to participate on Zoom must preregister at www.tinyurl.com/FODL-Maya.
