Christmas at the Castle

Christmas at the Castle Will be “Ringing in Our Independence” on December 6-7th Christmas at the Castle 2025 (December 6–7, 12–4 pm) continues over 50 years of pre-holiday tradition with colonial decorations, costumed docents, and family-friendly entertainment and activities. In anticipation of the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, we will spotlight Rhode Island’s pivotal role in the decade leading up to the break from England. A special display will include some of the earliest acts of resistance to British revenue policies which galvanized colonial opinion. Hourly entertainment features local musicians, singers, storytellers, and historic reenactors: Brown University Madrigal Singers, Harpist Mary King, “A Pirate’s Yuletide Sing Along” by Stephen & Alexa Heredia-Smith, Story Time with Julia Heinzmann, and visits with Roger Williams (John McNiff) and Abigail Gardiner Updike (Marilyn Harris). The second floor will be open for colonial craft displays of bobbin lacemaking, spinning, weaving and other textile crafts. Children can enjoy story time, making crafts, gingerbread cookie decorating, colonial games, hand-painting, a scavenger hunt, and Father Christmas. For holiday shoppers, there is a Christmas Bazaar offering handmade crafts and holiday items, a bake sale, and a raffle. Smith’s Castle, a National Historical Site, is located at 55 Richard Smith Drive, North Kingstown (Wickford). Admission to Christmas at the Castle is: Adults - $10.00; Children 6-12 years - $5.00; Children under 6 and Association Members - Free; Family Cap - $30.00. There are no additional charges for children’s crafts or entertainment. Entertainment is provided through a generous grant from the North Kingstown Arts Council.
