Rochambeau Commemoration
Please join Alliance Française de Newport
and the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail
for a commemoration of the landing of French troops in 1780 under the command of Comte de Rochambeau
and the celebration of the special bond between the people of France and the United States.
This is a special event to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the founding of the United States of America
The event includes:
• A performance by the French Military Band
• A speech by the French Ambassador the United States, M. Laurent Bili
• The placing of a wreath in honor of Compte de Rochambeau
• The placing of wreath in honor of French soldiers who lost their lives in the War of Independence
• The spectacle of 6,000 French flags placed in King Park
• The singing of the Marseillaise
• A military salute by the Artillery Company of Newport
If you wish to sit during the ceremony, please bring a lawn chair
