Craft an Old-Fashioned Christmas Ornament at a One-Room Schoolhouse
Under the guidance of the schoolhouse volunteers, participants will make Ukrainian straw ornaments, Victorian cones and fans, fragrant orange and clove pomander balls, foil bells, Christmas cards, and popcorn and cranberry garlands to take home.
Warm cider will be served inside the cozy schoolhouse, also known as the “Hot Potato Schoolhouse, and at the nearby Visitors Center, capturing the spirit of the holiday season for all the crafters.
The workshop runs between 1-4 pm., but entry is staggered every half hour as space is limited. It is open to adults and children ages 5 and older. The cost is $10 per participant, which includes all materials and refreshment. Additional siblings may attend at a reduced rate of $5 each. Space is limited so advance reservations are required and may be made through www.greatroadheritagecampus.org.
The event is sponsored by the Friends of Hearthside, an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that serves as stewards of the town’s historic properties at the Great Road Heritage Campus at Chase Farm Park to preserve these treasured relics of the town’s past. All proceeds support the programming to bring history to life at the four sites: Pullen’s Corner Schoolhouse, Hannaway Blacksmith Shop, the Moffett Mill, and Hearthside House Museum.
