New Bedford Whaling Museum "First Friday" in March!
The New Bedford Whaling Museum continues its popular First Friday series on March 7, offering an evening of art, history, and live entertainment in a vibrant, adults-only atmosphere. Guests can sip on signature cocktails and mocktails from the cash bar while enjoying complimentary light bites throughout the night.
The evening begins at 5:00 p.m. with an intimate “Meet the Artist” session featuring Katy Rodden Walker, whose installation Community BLOOMS transforms plastic waste collected from local waterways into a breathtaking jellyfish-inspired display. This immersive artwork raises awareness about plastic pollution and environmental change through a fusion of beauty and sustainability.
At 6:00 p.m., the night shifts into a high-energy gypsy jazz performance with Jason Smith’s Hot Club Cheese Roll Sextet (HCCR). Known for their dynamic performances across the Southcoast, HCCR blends jazz standards and contemporary favorites in the timeless Gypsy Jazz style pioneered by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. For this performance only, the band—typically a quartet—will expand to a six-piece ensemble, featuring Jason Smith (guitar), John Birt (guitar), Mark Russell (violin), Albert Behar (accordion), Casey Belisle (drums), and Tanner McMullen (upright bass).
First Fridays at the Whaling Museum provide a one-of-a-kind experience, bringing live music, fine art, and history together in an adults-only (21+) setting. Doors open at 5:00 p.m., with performances beginning at 6:00 p.m.
