This Month: Inclined by Aberration
South Coast Regional Dancers are performing several dances, each inspired by a specific work of art by Alex Buchanan that is on display at the New Bedford Art Museum. Entitled Inclined by Aberration, the dances respond to the emotional range of Buchanan’s work and his unexpected use of materials. As well, the music uses ranges from Stevie Wonder and Lionel Richie to Rachel’s, Sevdaliza, and Thomas Dolby. The costumes worn by the dancers – rain gear and overalls – are intended to evoke the practical aesthetic associated with seafaring life. Just as Buchanan shifts the meaning of his nautical material in his forms and presentations, we also aim to show the dancers’ costumes not just moving, but dancing, in an unusual way.
Our dancers are from The Gold School in Brockton, MA, and Tabor Academy in Marion, MA.
The South Coast Regional Dancers include Isa Sarcodote, Chloe Kim Addie Husband, Stevie Distasio, Zara Ellis, Colbie Peterson, Kennedy Davis, Anaira Johnson, and Steven Vaughn.
