NaNoWriMo Write-in


In support of local writers taking the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) challenge, LitArts RI is offering free in-person writing sessions with guided meditation breaks on Sat, Nov 4 & Nov 18 from 10am-1pm. Join us to meet fellow writers, cultivate care around your writing practice and NaNoWriMo goals, and keep up your momentum for the month! During the Sat, Nov 4 write-in, author Maria Mutch will be offering two 15-minute meditations for writers, beginning at 10am with a session on alignment, then breaking at 12pm for a session on allowing. During the Sat, Nov 18 write-in, Khipra & Erika Nichols of Nature's Atelier will offer three 10-minute meditation breaks throughout the session to help writers ignite creativity and cultivate peace within. It all begins on Thurs, Oct 26 from 6-8pm with a special NaNoWriMo Kickoff event focused on prep and self-care, where you can meet fellow writers preparing for the month ahead. Register for the kickoff event here. Meditation Facilitators Maria Mutch is the author of Know the Night, a memoir, When We Were Birds, a story collection, and Molly Falls to Earth, a novel. She is a story and memoir consultant and workshop leader, and certified Mindfulness Meditation guide. She lives in southern Rhode Island. Maria will be leading guided meditations during the Nov 4 write-in. Erika Nichols finds inspiration in nature and a sense of oneness and joy in the gifts it provides. Erika holds a BA in psychology and a PhD in Cognitive Science. She has been interested in contemplative practices and meditation and how they benefit our brain and mind and had focused her research on the effects of meditation in memory and learning. As a Buddhist practitioner, Erika has been offering several meditation classes and mindful experiences over the years such as introductory meditation, mindful eating classes, contemplative photography. Khipra Nichols is the Chief Inspiration Officer and writer of Nature’s Atelier, Associate Professor of Industrial Design at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Khipra is also a nature lover and an avid practitioner/advocate of meditation. Before joining RISD’s full time faculty in 1998 he was Lead Designer at Hasbro’s Playskool’s Preschool and Baby divisions for 20 years, specializing in preschool toy and infant care design. Erika & Khipra will be leading guided meditations during the Nov 18 write-in. Accessibility LitArts RI is wheelchair accessible.
