Especially designed for girls ages 6 and up with their favorite doll and accompanied by an adult, Samantha's Afternoon Tea offers all the elaborate fixings of Hearthside’s notable traditional teas, including linen and lace tablecloths, fancy tiered dishes and elegant china, miniature sandwiches and sweets, and a choice of hot tea or lemonade.
The event is based upon the 1904 American Girl Doll character, Samantha. Through a presentation given by Theadora Minca, who had started at Hearthside as a youth docent at age 8, girls will learn about proper manners at the tea table and what it was like for young girls growing up at Hearthside during the early part of the 19th century. Although the volunteer staff will be attired in period dresses, guests may dress in 2024 attire for this special affair.
Other features of the event include prizes, raffles, a tour through the museum, and shopping in the gift shop for an outfit or accessories for the girls’ dolls. This memorable afternoon is captured in a keepsake photo sent to each attendee following the event.
Two seatings are offered at 12:30-2:00 p.m. and 3:00-4:30 p.m. Seating is limited and must be purchased in advance through www.hearthsidehouse.org. Tickets are $30 per person.
Built in 1810, the stately Hearthside is owned by the town of Lincoln and is a house museum run by the volunteer organization Friends of Hearthside. Funds are raised to support the programming and preservation of this historic landmark and the other town-owned sites at the Great Road Heritage Campus through special programs, exhibits and tours.
