Colonial Fun with Felicity's Liberty ChocolTEA & Doll Garden Party

Hearthside Museum's popular annual tea event for young girls features a different period in history as told through the story of an American Girl Doll character. With this special 250th anniversary year for America, the story is about Felicity, the character from 1774. This year's "tea" also takes a different twist. merging two events---the indoor Doll Tea and the late summer Garden Party---into one outdoor summer event. Felicity's Liberty ChocolTEA & Doll Garden Party will be held on the grounds under a tent, with a choice of two seatings at either noon-2:00 or 3:00-5:00 pm. At the time of Felicity's childhood in 1774, the colonists were boycotting tea and instead enjoyed chocolate as their favored beverage. So Hearthside's ChocolTEA will feature a choice of hot chocolate, herbal tea, or lemonade along with bite-size sweet treats served at an "afternoon tea.". Proper tea etiquette will be among the topics covered in the presentation, which is given by Lisa and Thea Minca, long-time mother and daughter volunteers with Hearthside, who will showcase their own collection of the original Felicity doll and her period-correct accessories. After refreshments and the program, colonial activities get underway, including a craft that the girls can bring home, and outdoor colonial games with in the yard and a scavenger hunt. Also included will be touring the WE THE PEOPLE exhibit that commemorates our country's 250th anniversary. Prizes and a raffle, a keepsake photo of each guest, and shopping complete the afternoon. Guests must be school age, at least 6 years old, and accompanied by a parent or another adult to share the experience together. Advance reservations only by June 3 through hearthsidehouse.org. Tickets are $30 each guest. Space is limited. Hearthside House Museum is an award-winning museum that is operated by the all-volunteer nonprofit Friends of Hearthside. The museum is part of the Great Road Heritage Campus consisting of other 19th century buildings also operated by the organization and which help to tell the stories of the early years of Lincoln. Those include the Pullen's Corner One-Room Schoolhouse (1850), the Moffett Mill (1812), and the Hannaway Blacksmith Shop (1880), all situated at Chase Farm Park in Lincoln.
