Adaptive Models to Take the Runway at Rhode Island Fashion Week in Groundbreaking Segment

Rhode Island Fashion Week is about to make history. On Saturday, September 27th, the runway at Farm Fresh RI will showcase “THE LOOK”—an electrifying fashion segment featuring adaptive models and adaptive fashion curated by HumanKind Casting and the Spina Bifida Association of Greater New England. Doors open at 7:00 PM, and the event is open to the public at a fully accessible location, welcoming all bodies, all styles, and all communities to witness a new era of inclusive fashion. “THE LOOK” will spotlight a dynamic mix of footwear, activewear, business professional, swimwear, and streetwear, all modeled by individuals with disabilities. These adaptive models are not here to “inspire”—they are here to be seen, styled, and celebrated as the professionals they are. It’s fashion, full stop. “Adaptive fashion is not a trend—it's a truth,” says Kristie Raymond, founder of HumanKind Casting. “When disabled models are included on the runway, we’re not just changing fashion—we’re changing the narrative. This is about visibility, access, and making sure every body belongs on that stage.” This event is not just a fashion show—it’s an educational experience and a celebration of individual style, collaboration, and the beauty of representation. Media are invited to attend, capture, and help amplify this critical moment for disability visibility in the fashion industry. Photos and interview opportunities with models, designers, and segment organizers are available upon request.
