Newport Juneteenth Celebration
The annual event which is presented by the RI Slave History Medallions (RISHM), celebrates all persons’ freedom and honors the enslaved heroes of Rhode Island’s storied 1st RI “Black” Regiment, as well as Newport’s local Black history. Attendees will enjoy reënactments of colonial militia regiments, guest speakers and performances by African and Indigenous tribal members, live music, children’s crafts, a drumming circle, vendors, and food trucks. The Juneteenth celebration will be followed by RISHM’s inaugural Black History Walking Tour across Historic Hill. Visit www.rishm.org/Juneteenth for more information and to purchase tour tickets.
