AHA! Night: I AM NB - Storytelling Series Part II

The stories continue with part two of our I AM NB storytelling series. This AHA! Night celebrates the personal and undertold stories of New Bedford as expressed through art, music, spoken word, and more, with a special focus on the stories of women in recognition of Women's History Month. The AHA! open mic returns at the Z's Speakeasy, with the Jazz Jam duo of Blair Taylor and Manny Escobar hosting and providing musical accompaniment. (6-8 pm) At Gallery X, the New Bedford Historical Society has curated a speaking program, I Am New Bedford Journeys, helping to build a public narrative that uplifts and celebrates the contributions of women and girls of color. (6-8 pm) Hear tales and personal anecdotes related to the New Bedford Scallop Festival, Blessing of the Fleet, Fishermen’s Memorial Service, and Working Waterfront Festival from the women who participated in the New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center’s ongoing Herstory Oral History Project! (6-7:30 pm) The Whaling Museum opens its doors for "Women Who Map the World," which includes free admission, a whale scavenger hunt, a giant kite workshop, and a "progressing poetry" experience with six local women poets. (4-7 pm) The First Unitarian Church is hosting author Ieva Jusionyte for a conversation about her recent book, "Exit Wounds: How America’s Guns Fuel Violence Across the Border," a Massachusetts Book Awards Nonfiction Honors title. The evening will include a talk about her research and findings, followed by an audience Q&A and book signing. (6-7:30 pm) Plus, young adults can write a letter to their future selves at the Beyond House; kids can craft a family tree and discover resources to learn about their family history with the library's Youth Services; and film selections are being announced for the upcoming New Bedford Film Festival.
