March AHA! Night: Women's Work


New Bedford will be alive with activities on AHA! night! celebrating Women's Work! Window shopping takes on a magical new meaning when you wander up William Street to see weaver Lisa Elliott demonstrating her craft in the window of TL6 The Gallery on William Street. Keep following the yellow AHA! flags throughout downtown to explore open studios, maker demonstrations, art exhibitions, coloring and doodling, a poetry reading, a film screening, and plenty of music experiences, for example: Seaport Sessions with DJ Honeysuckle from 6:00 - 7:30pm DJ Honeysuckle is an experimental artist based out of New Bedford, MA. Their style is to explore sounds and blend tunes. From House to Punk rock, they love to play with different sounds. The Drawing Room, 22 William Street Mohammad Hossein Kashefi from 6 to 8 pm Enjoy the music while appreciating Echoes of Home, an exhibition of Iranian artists reflecting on the memory of home beyond borders. The Star Gallery, 715 Purchase Street Annette Almeida from 5 to 6 pm Put on your dancing shoes for a lively musical set. Alison Wells Fine Art Gallery, 106 William Street Women’s Alliance’s Local Women’s History timeline from 5:00 The timeline will be displayed, along with various crafts and resource tables for timeline-making activities to ensure that what’s considered “women’s work” is visible, celebrated, and documented, contributing to closing the gender pay gap. National Park Maker Space, 33 William Street New Bedford Film Festival Sneak Peek event Join filmmakers Alyssa Botelho & Carley Byers to learn about igniting imagination through film. Events begin to kick off at 4 pm and most will conclude by 8 pm. Free parking is available at the Elm Street Garage. Check the AHA! website for a complete list of AHA! events and activities Thursday night. Everyone is encouraged to check back regularly as more events get added daily. Printed lists can be found at the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park Visitors Center and the New Bedford Free Public Library on the day of the event. AHA! (Art, History, Architecture) New Bedford takes place eleven months out of the year on the second Thursday of the month, offering free arts and culture experiences for all in and around the historical seaport district of downtown New Bedford. This month’s AHA! activities are supported in part bya grant from the New Bedford Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, and in party by the Art is Everywhere G by federal award number SLFRP1067 awarded to The City of New Bedford by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and is facilitated by New Bedford Creative at the NBEDC.
