Politics with Principles: Creator of Social Security Frances Perkins
Learn the story of this civil servant who dedicated her career to providing exploited working men and women with safe, humane workplaces and retirees with a financial safety net. Appointed by FDR, Labor Secretary Frances Perkins pushed through legislation to reduce crushing work-week hours, helped develop a fire-safety code in New York that became a model for the country, and created Social Security. This humble heroine's list of accomplishments is lengthy.
