The Southern New England BandFest presents its 1st annual event, dedicated to celebrating the rich tradition of symphonic music in the region.
This festival brings together talented musicians from various communities, showcasing the exceptional performances of four prominent symphonic bands:
Our Lady of Light Symphonic Band of Fall River Massachusetts
Tri County Symphonic Band of Rochester Massachusetts
Rhode Island Wind Ensemble of East Providence Rhode Island
The American Band of Providence Rhode Island
Each band contributes its unique sound and style, enriching the cultural tapestry of Southern New England.
The Our Lady of Light Symphonic Band was established in 1969 here in Fall River MA and is a community-focused ensemble that emphasizes the joy of music-making. Under the direction of Maestro Scott P. Lopes, they have performed globally including performances in Europe, The Kennedy Center in Washington DC and the world renown Symphony Hall in Boston MA. They will be performing wonderful compositions including Beyond the Horizon by Rossano Galante, John Williams' Liberty Fanfare and The Semiquincentennial March, composed by Assistant Musical Director Joseph Souto!
The Tri-County Symphonic Band was established in 1962 and is under the direction of Maestro Philip Sanborn. The Tri County Symphonic Band is known for its diverse repertoire and commitment to musical excellence. Comprised of musicians from various backgrounds, the band performs a wide range of works, from classical masterpieces to contemporary compositions. Their repertoire will feature First Suite in E Flat and Second Suite in F composed by Gustav Holst. They will also perform the likes of Frank Ticheli with Blue Shades.
The Rhode Island Wind Ensemble was established in 1969 and is considered one of the premier ensembles in New England! Under the direction of Dr. Robert Franzblau, the Rhode Island Wind Ensemble brings professional-caliber performances to local communities - free of charge. Through music, they continue to inspire, educate, and connect audiences of all ages across Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. They will be performing some masterpieces including Aaron Copland's Buckaroo Holiday, A Movement for Rosa by Mark Camphouse and featuring Daniel Healey on Trumpet and Collin Tyrrell on Trombone, The Rhode Island Wind Ensemble performs “On the Top of Cape Finisterra” by Ricardo Molla!
The American Band is celebrating it's 180th Season, performing since 1837! From Providence Rhode Island, The American Band is a symphonic concert band comprised of over 50 adult musicians from Rhode Island and nearby Connecticut and Massachusetts. Under the direction of Dr. Brian Cardany, their repertoire is both versatile and traditional with works ranging from classical to popular, marches and operatic overtures to modern works for band. A number of smaller ensembles are also formed within the band. The band has a long and colorful history extending back to 1837, making the American Band one of the oldest continuously active bands in the United States. They will be closing out our performances with several wonderful pieces of music including the American Overture for Band by Joseph Willcox Jenkins, John Williams Swings arranged by Jay Bocook and Americas favorite march, The Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa!
The Southern New England BandFest serves as a platform for these four outstanding symphonic bands to come together, share their love for music, and engage with the community. Each band, with its unique identity and musical offerings, contributes to the vibrant cultural landscape of Southern New England, making the festival a must-attend event for music lovers in the region.
