May Day Tribute to Pete Seeger and Malvina Reynolds
Singer, songwriter, peace activist and cultural organizer Joyce Katzberg will be returning to The Baptist Church in Warren on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026 to share an eclectic mix of songs and stories about two of the twentieth centuries most influential topical songwriters and performers. Katzberg performed many times with Pete Seeger and is well known for over a half a century of experience on stage and for her activism on the streets. Katzberg will be joined by special guests: Barry Brown, Nancy Hood, Kate Katzberg and Jimmy Warren all bringing their own unique voices, histories and styles to what will surely be an inspiring event. This concert is a fundraiser to help Ms. Katzberg with medical expenses and household repairs.
The Baptist Church is located on the corner of Main and Miller Streets in Warren, RI. and is on RIPTA bus route #60.
Doors will open at 1:00. Concert will begin at 1:30 PM and end at 3:00. Seating will be first come, first seated . Instead of having a set ticket price, this will be a "pay what you can" event.
Attendees are requested to be as fragrance free as possible. Volunteers will be on hand to help people in wheelchairs get access to the sanctuary.
Kate Katzberg is well known for her strong singing as well as her writing and artistic skills and for many years performed as one half of the beloved duo Katzberg and Snyder. Kate and Joyce are both co-founders of the Stone Soup Coffeehouse.
Barry Brown is a multi-talented instrumentalist with over a half century of experience and is well versed in many genres of music. Nancy Hood is a classically trained mezzo-soprano with a diverse repertoire. Brown and Hood have been performing together for many years and have a special educational and entertaining program based on Ms. Hood's experience growing up in a leftist family during the Joe McCarthy era. Pete Seeger said this about their program "I've Got A Song!" "
"I am lucky that the seeds I planted in 1949 are still thriving. Keep on!".
Jimmy Warren is known as a songwriter's songwriter with knock out guitar playing skills and has been performing with Joyce Katzberg since 2012.
As the concert is happening in the sanctuary there will not be a refreshment break. There are cafes and restaurants and sights to see all within close distance to the church.
We are looking forward to gathering in the Spring to join voices and feed Hope together as we celebrate Pete Seeger's 107th birthday, enjoy some favorites of Malvina Reynold's observational songwriting and more.
