AHA! Night: Summer in the Seaport is taking place on Thursday, August 13th. Here's a preview of what's happening!
Cheer on local fishermen as they compete for the title of New Bedford's best shucker during the Fishing Heritage Center's Scallopalooza! Enjoy demonstrations, vendors, food trucks, and more, including live music from Jason Roze in an AHA! Seaport Session.
Things will also be rocking in Custom House Square with Redline Band performing courtesy of the Whaling History Alliance. Community partners will be popping up in and around the square, including this month's sponsor Eversource, who will bring one of their specialized bucket trucks for kids to explore! While you're there, snag a tasty snack from Sorbae Frozen Treats and Tamani's Lemonade Stand.
Explore Public Xhibition 37 at Gallery X, visit the library's youth services for summer garden science with the Children's Museum Easton, challenge YouthBuild's instructors to a game of Stumpy, decorate seashells with the Beyond House, play Kan Jam with Clear the Lens, learn about marine life with Trustees' Mobile Adventures, head to the jazz wall for Centre Street Sessions with performances by Tim Ray & Cassandre McKinley, explore the Seaport Art Walk, take in Hamlet at the Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum in a performance by Reverie Theatre Group, and participate in a guided meditation at Serlingpa Meditation Center.
Plus, enjoy the following AHA! Moments:
Check out the J&J art exhibition popping up at Shimmer, featuring the work of James and John — two inspired artists and program participants at Better Community Living, an organization dedicated to empowering individuals with developmental disabilities through creative and community programs.
See the Art Club Jazz Ensemble at the Verdean Veterans Memorial Hall, performing jazz standards in an intergenerational, cross-cultural celebration of the music of the African Diaspora. The evening continues with Archie Rebeiro & Friends, featuring The Anchor Band.
Join illustrator Zulay “ZU” Holland Perez, for a hands-on, experimental illustration workshop at JNSQ, designed to unlock creativity through simple drawing exercises. Participants will leave with tools to nurture creativity and bring that energy into everyday life.
Stop by 3rd EyE Youth Empowerment for Urban Line Dance! Learn two fun favorites—Boots on the Ground and Vibe—with the multi-talented Maia Livramento.
This is just some of what's happening during AHA! Night: Summer in the Seaport. The fun begins around 4 pm and continues after dark. Check the AHA! website for the latest schedule as activities get added every day.
