Jan 25 7pm At The River Singer Songwriters' Monthly Series: Hosted by Mary Pierce

FEATURED ARTISTS-JAN 25TH SHOW Paul Colombino (https://www.paulcolombino.com) A native of Rhode Island, Paul learned guitar at the age of 10 and become a regular performer in venues throughout the Rhode Island and Southern New England area, opening for acts such as Dave Van Ronk and Aztec Two-Step. Through his intracacies of fingerpicking and authentic expression of his original songs, he has crafted his love of guitar and and melodies through songwriting. Paul is the recipient of the International Acoustic Music Award winner of his song "Kottke in 2023. He was inspired by the music of Leo Kottke, which became a pivotal point in Paul's career. "The study of classical guitar during my college years added to my perception and understanding of the instrument as a vehicle of artistic expression, both as a performer and composer. " says Paul. Paul's first album entitled Everheart, is a collection of original instrumental pieces for solo guitar. The second CD circa 2002 is called A Guitar for Christmas and contains instrumental finger style versions of classic Christmas songs. The third, Once and Again, is a collaboration with my long-time friend and singing partner Glen Bottalico. The songs are harmony-infused covers of artists as diverse as Paul Simon, Sandy Denny, Sting, Eva Cassidy and Crosby, Stills and Nash. Paul's latest album, Hello Old Friend, was released in 2019 and is comprised of finger style instrumentals and vocal tunes. Hello Old Friend is available everywhere. We are so excited to have Paul Colombino join us At the River on Jan 25th. 2024 Ron Carlson ( https://roncarlsonmusic.com) "Ron is unparalleled as a songwriter, having crafted many unique songs which are truly original, with a knack for both commonplace events and unusual phenomena into memorable songs." One of his songs, “The Songs We Sang Together “ is becoming a world-wide folk Anthem. It has been embraced by various communities of folksingers, as it has wide appeal to anyone who has experienced the joys of sharing music with friends.” Bob Jordan Ron has been performing in Central Massachusetts, RI and beyond for much of the last four decades, singing traditional and contemporary folk music, as well as many of my original songs and tunes. He's often been told that a number of his original songs sound like traditional material. That makes him smile. Many of his compositions are centered in and around his home town of Worcester and the surrounding areas where he was born and lives to this very day. They are songs of love and sorrow, pain and joy, filtered through my eyes; sometimes whimsical, sometimes philosophical, hopefully with empathy and compassion. Mary Pierce - WOMEN FOLK (www.musicofmarypierce.com) Mary Pierce, Singer/Songwriter and Narragansett resident, was inspired early on by Irish and American Folk artists. Her passion for writing, creative energy and her vulnerability emotes through her music. In 2023, she received the top singer/songwriter award by The Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival and WICN Folk Revival Radio for her original songs. Mary has written and recorded 4 albums: Miles Away, Dublin Bay, Hideaway, Memory Road and is launching her 5th album "Warrior," which brings a compelling force of the strength and courage of women being warriors of love and hope. “I had a vision to launch a monthly Singer/Songwriters’ series to bring the community together and share the extensive talent of local musicians." " I am so happy it has come to fruition and has been so well received by all who have attended! "Mary has been performing with her sister, Margi (harmony and piano) for several years and recorded the first album together called "Miles Away.” Mary and Margi’s beautiful, unique and seamless vocal blend is often referred to as ‘the third voice” and their sister bond is captured in each song. Margi and Mary perform regularly in the New England area along with the full band (fiddle, guitar, Irish whistle, piano, harmony)-Women Folk. As their musical collaboration continues to organically evolve, they feel joy and gratitude each time they step on the stage together. Margi Gianquinto (www.margisings.com) Margi, (Mary’s sister), is an accomplished jazz singer, pianist, music educator, and choir director with a diverse musical background. Her love of harmony and her multiple talents are artfully blended into each of her projects across many genres-from folk to jazz. Margi divides her time between teaching, performing, and residencies with her jazz band in the Connecticut and NYC area. Margi graduated from Providence College with a degree in music (classical piano/choral) and humanities. “It has been a joy to sing/play with my sister, Mary, and see the growth we have experienced together in bringing the songs to their fullest.” Margi Gianquinto.
