Vanishing Ecologies: Nature Walk Protecting a Changing Ecology


9 AM. Saturday, September 19 (Rain Date: Sunday, September 27) Free for All Permanently protecting habitat and farmland from development is a powerful action with generational impact. Not only does this work preserve culturally-important landscapes, but the science is clear- connected tracts of habitat are critical for climate change adaptation. We can protect what is important now, but how do we steward the land in the face of an uncertain future? DNRT’s Executive Director, Nick Wildman, will lead guests on a walk of the Slocums River Reserve to illustrate the importance of this parcel to the larger local environment. He will also describe how changing environmental factors figure into the organization’s management of its protected spaces. RSVP Meet at Slocum's River Reserve Parking Lot. Located approximately 1/10th of a mile south of 300 Horseneck Road, Dartmouth, MA 02748 (Directly across from the Sylvan Nursery Barn) Duration is about an hour. Distance is about one mile. Participants dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. Participants should consider appropriate protection against mosquitos and ticks.
