The Future of Portland Summit Series

If you could wave a wand and fix one thing related to Portland’s economy, what would it be? Join us for this conversation in the first of many public forums to bring dialogue about how to support our city’s growth and revitalization. This week we discuss Futurism & Industries, What does Portland want to be known for? with experts: Elias Stahl, Hilos & Nilesh Ashra, Pragmatic Futurism and Facilitator: Michael Perman. This is an all ages and free event. Bring your questions and insights ready to share. The overall goal of this summit is to address how, thoughtfully and collaboratively, cities can develop comprehensive strategies to build a healthy, resilient, and inclusive economy that benefits all Portlanders. Topics of discussion: What are the City's Unique Assets and Strengths in regards to the economy? How do we leverage our natural resources and infrastructure? How can the current sectors be leveraged to drive economic growth and competitiveness? What are the Key Economic Drivers and Trends we should be paying attention to in Portland? What emerging trends or opportunities should the city capitalize on? What should the city be doing to adapt to changes in technology, globalization, and consumer behavior? How Can the City Foster Entrepreneurship and Innovation? What programs and initiatives can support local entrepreneurs and startups? How can the city create a culture of innovation and risk-taking? What investments should be made to attract and retain diverse talent and innovative companies? How Can the City Foster Collaboration and Partnerships? How can public-private partnerships (PPPs) be utilized to finance infrastructure projects and stimulate economic development? How can the city monitor progress towards its economic development goals and objectives? The Future of Portland is a collaboration born of like minded Portlander’s Nina Byrd, Jessie Burke & Connie Wohn. All three women were seeking a way to create actionable ways for civic engagement to become available and a community movement. Their shared vision, concerns and desire for the revival of Portland created this series and seeks to bring Portland together with action in mind.
