A World Apart: Music by Haydn & Pärt

Imagine an intriguing and satisfying aural combination: the fullest color spectrum paired with the most uncompromising gray scale… and join the choirs of Trinity Cathedral, the Portland Baroque Orchestra, vocal soloists, and guest conductor Gabriel Crouch for an exciting evening of music by Franz Josef Haydn and Arvo Pärt! You’ll hear Pärt’s haunting work for strings and chorus, Adam’s Lament, paired with Haydn’s ebullient Theresienmesse in a dynamic performance full of contrasts. Featured soloists include Arwen Myers, soprano; Sarah Beaty, mezzo-soprano; Leslie Green, tenor; and Daniel Myers, baritone. Grammy-nominated guest conductor Gabriel Crouch is Director of Choral Activities and Professor of the Practice in Music at Princeton University. He began his musical career as a chorister at Westminster Abbey, completed a choral scholarship at Trinity College, Cambridge, and has since pursued a multifaceted career as a conductor, vocalist, and composer. He directs the British early music consort Gallicantus, whose recordings have received accolades the world over. Trinity is thrilled to be collaborating once again with PBO, a nationally celebrated ensemble grounded in intimate and historically-informed performances of music from before 1840. Don’t miss this evening of deeply meaningful and exquisitely beautiful music to ring in the spring!
