From Westminster Abbey, London to St. Mark's Parish, Portland - Organist James O'Donnell in Concert
O'Donnell is an internationally acclaimed organist known for his dynamic performances & profound understanding of music. In his 23-year tenure as Organist & Master of Choristers at Westminster Abbey, O'Donnell was responsible for all musical aspects of the Abbey's work. He directed the music at great national occasions including the State Funeral for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, which was broadcast live throughout the world to an estimated audience of over 4 billion people and the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. He now holds the post of Professor in the Practice of Organ at Yale School of Music & the Yale Institute of Sacred Music.
The concert will take place at the historic Anglican Parish of St. Mark. The music will be played on the church's three manual tracker-action instrument with imposing horizontal trumpet made by the Werner Bosch firm of Kassell, Germany, installed in 1966. This 100-year old building is Romanesque in style and the nave of the church unsurpassed in beauty, making it a perfect setting for an evening of magnificent music.
