SH/FT: Experimental Fashion Show, Hosted by Poison Waters
Portland, OR, May 16th – Arts for Learning NW is thrilled to announce the fourth annual experimental fashion show "SH/FT," showcasing local teens and their creative collaborations with professional design mentors. This innovative event will see teams of teenagers dreaming up and fabricating garments crafted from found and recycled materials, culminating in a spectacular runway showcase hosted by the incomparable Poison Waters, with beloved drag queens modeling their final designs.
SH/FT represents a unique opportunity for young designers to flex their creative muscles, experiment with sustainable fashion, and learn from industry professionals. By partnering with seasoned designers as mentors, Arts for Learning aims to provide a platform for teenagers to explore their passion for fashion while promoting sustainability and artistic expression.
The event will feature designs from talented teen teams mentored by renowned designers including Caitlin Pearl, Ash Smith, Janessa Bautista, Joeanally Gonzalez, Olivia DelGandio, and Olga Maksakova. These designers bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the program, guiding and inspiring the next generation of fashion innovators.
In addition to showcasing the creativity of young designers, SH/FT will spotlight the artistry of drag performance, with a lineup of esteemed drag queens including Syra St. James, Lylac, Chanel V, Cassie Nova, and Inanna Miss. Each queen will grace the runway in a final design created by the teen teams, adding an element of theatricality and glamor to the event, hosted by the fabulous Poison Waters.
The SH/FT event will take place at the Evergreen, located at 618 SE Alder St, Portland, OR 97214, starting at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $5 for students and can be purchased online at https://givebutter.com/shift24.
