About Dr. David G. Lewis:
Dr. David G. Lewis, a member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, is a distinguished historian specializing in Native American history in the Willamette Valley. Lewis has dedicated more than twenty years to studying the original histories of the people of Oregon and California, focusing on the Kalapuyans and other Western Oregon tribes. Assistant professor of anthropology and Indigenous studies at Oregon State University, Lewis is the author of the 2023 book Tribal Histories of the Willamette Valley, and other works including essays written via his blog, The Quartux Journal. He lives in Chemeketa (now Salem), Oregon, with his wife Donna and their two sons, Saghaley and Inatye.
"We are excited to launch 'Culture Uncorked' with Dr. Lewis, highlighting the rich culture of our region. With thousands of years of tribal history preceding white settlement in the Willamette Valley, we can’t imagine a more relevant inaugural speaker to join us at the winery,” said Collin Styring, Second-Generation Winemaker at Styring Vineyards.
