This home grown, Portland baked, surprisingly enlightened sex comedy is kicking off its run in the town where it all began. Whiskey Dixie and the Big Wet Country was first put up as a sold-out-extended-run stage play at the Imago Theater in 2018, where the Willamette Week called it a "worthy work of post-#METOO theater" with "disarming emotional heft." Richards then adapted it into a screenplay, which she directed in Vernonia, OR in 2019. The excitement among portlanders for this project has only grown since, as the film premiere has already sold out more than a month in advance.
This film follows the steamy escapades of Whiskey Williams, a small-town siren with big dreams and even bigger... personality. Whiskey’s attempt to flee to Nashville ends in a lost license and a viral video. Now, she's torn between capitalizing on her newfound fame or diving into the temptation of romantic chaos all set against the picturesque backdrop of the American dive bar. With equal parts heart and hilarity this movie tackles issues of consent, reproductive rights, and safe sex in ways that will leave you laughing til you think.
Amanda is an award-winning songwriter, producer, and musician. She has worked in the music industry for 20 years as an independent artist, and this soundtrack marks her 8th full length, self-released album. She is also currently releasing music and playing shows with her band, Amanda Richards and the Good Long Whiles, where she offers lead vocals and rhythm guitar alongside the film's Score Composer/Musical Director/Soundtrack Producer, Stephen Freeman Moore.
This instant Cult Classic will not be in Portland long, but its legacy will endure. Get tickets now and do not miss this party!!!
