Vanport Mosaic Presents: COMING HOME, Memory Activism in Portland’s Historic Old Town

Vanport Mosaic is one of just 14 organizations nationwide selected to anchor the inaugural Cultural Week of Action on Race and Democracy, launched by Race Forward and Americans for the Arts (AFTA). This initiative will highlight Portland’s complex history through COMING HOME: Memory Activism in Old Town, a week-long series of free public events from September 28 to October 5. Key partners with deep community ties—including the Oregon Historical Society, Oregon Black Pioneers, Japanese American Museum of Oregon, Lan Su Chinese Garden, and Portland Chinatown Museum—will present exhibitions, walking tours, and activities that celebrate Old Town’s cultural legacy. A highlight of the week is the roundtable discussion Re-imagining Old Town, featuring Erica Naito-Campbell, granddaughter of Portland visionary Bill Naito. Participants will engage in discussions that honor Old Town's past while envisioning its future.
