But the Data Spotlight also suggests that when older adults lose money due to fraud, they’re hit harder in the wallet. People between 70 and 79 reported median individual losses of $800. For those 80 and over, that number shot up to $1,500.” The Port St. Lucie Sunset Rotary Club wants St. Lucie County residents to be more aware of how to prevent themselves from becoming a victim. On Tuesday, March 21, The Port St. Lucie Sunset Rotary Club will host a Consumer Fraud Prevention Seminar. The event will be held at Tradition Town Hall, from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm. Speakers from several organizations, including the Florida Division of Consumer Services, The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, The Port St. Lucie Police Department, The St. Lucie County Property Appraiser’s Office, and the St. Lucie County Clerk of Courts, will discuss how to spot certain scams and avoid falling for them. “I know that consumer fraud has hit many people in our community,” Club President Nancy Oldham said. “Our club is committed to raising awareness so those in our community can spot a scam more easily and not fall prey to these terrible and costly crimes.” While the event is free, seating is limited and guests must register in advance.
