The Dukes Music, Duquesne's historical instrument ensemble, performs music for the season of Lent. The highlight of our program is a staggeringly expressive piece by Johann Christian Bach with Duquesne student Abigail Hill as vocal soloist. We will also present an astonishing piece for two violas d'amore by Biber, a double recorder concerto by Telemann, and music by Dittersdorff and Marini. Finally, we celebrate our ensemble's 10th concert by inviting the audience to participate in a sing-along: Johann Schelle's lovely motet "Komm, Jesu Komm".
Repertoire:
Biagio Marini: Passacalio op. 22, no. 25
Georg Philipp Telemann: Concerto in a minor for two recorders, TWV 52:a2
Karl Ditters von Dittersdorff: Sonata in E-flat Major for viola and bass
Heinrich Biber: Partita 7 for two violas d'amore from Harmonia artificioso-ariosa
Johann Schelle: Komm, Jesu Komm
Elizabeth Gambarini: Sonata op. 1
J. C. Bach: Ach, dass ich Wassers gnug hätte
