DPF-PHENO 2024: How did we come to be? That's a physics question!

Particle physicists in the U.S. have gone through a three-year exercise to discuss the future of the field. We have come up with an exciting plan that is meant to address the question "How did we come to be?" In this public lecture, Hitoshi Murayama of the University of California, Berkeley, will discuss essential parts of this question: dark matter, Higgs boson, neutrinos, inflation. Murayama is a well-known theoretical particle physicist who works broadly, even on cosmology and condensed matter physics. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo in 1991 and has been a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, since 2000. He is also the founding director of the Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe at the University of Tokyo, serving from 2007 to 2018. He received numerous awards and served on many advisory committees around the world. Most recently he chaired the 2023 Particle Physics Project Prioritization Panel (P5) that was charged with developing a 10-year strategic plan for US particle physics.
