Join us on Sunday, February 25 at the Holocaust Center for a public lecture by scholar Dr. Esther Raizen! Dr. Raizen will explore the story of Aliyah Bet, the clandestine immigration endeavor that brought Jewish refugees from Europe to Palestine in the 1930s and 1940s. Dr. Raizen will discuss two strong female leaders, Ada Sereni and Ruth Klüger-Aliav, who exemplified the movement and how they and others helped establish the foundation of modern-day Israel.
Dr. Raizen is an Assistant Professor of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures at the University of Texas at Austin. A native of Israel, she is a veteran Hebrew teacher and the winner of numerous teaching awards, research development grants, and instructional technology awards.
Tickets for the lecture are $10, and free for students (with valid ID) and Holocaust survivors.
Earlier in the day, Dr. Raizen will be conducting a teacher training, for which Act 48 credit is available; learn more about the lecture and training at http://hcofpgh.org/esther-raizen/
