Hope in Hardship

More than just a screening:
conversation and convening to carry us forward.

Where do you find hope? This short film is a powerful allegory reminding us that no matter the battle raging within you, hope can prevail against even the steepest odds. Incarcerated in Eastern Pennsylvania, Leonard T wrote the script that inspired this project during a Shining Light residency with screen actor Denver Taylor. Attack Theatre transformed the work into a spoken word dance film that illustrates the spirit, emotions, and struggles of the character Will Hope. Embodied by dancer Simon Phillips, Will shares what overcoming can mean both within and without.

Directed by Peter Kope and filmed on location in our new studios, each evening will feature a screening of the film, interactive sound elements, and a conversation with community members and the cast and creators of this transformative project.

This event will be offered both in-person, at our studio, and live-streamed online. On Saturday, November 6th at 1pm (in-person at 212 45th Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15201) and 3pm (via Zoom), Attack Theatre will also offer Hope in Hardship in workshop form using movement and the creative process to experience the importance of creating art in dark places.
