Appropriate for ages 14+ due to profanity and mature content. Children under 8 will not be admitted. ​Nothing’s worse than being stuck in detention on the Friday before a long weekend. Time ticks on as six high school students wait for the teacher to arrive and sign their release forms. As we learn why each of them has been sentenced to this fate, we wonder if the walls are keeping them in or if there are stronger forces at play. Each member of this extraordinary ATC cast portrays their character with passion, humor, and humanity. They will have you captivated with their performances from the first hilarious moment to the thought-provoking end. With strong themes of being forgotten, left behind and the school-to prison pipeline, ‘Exception to the Rule’ is a meaningful and entertaining evening of theater that will challenge audiences to see ‘school’ in a new light. ​Following the performance on Saturday, February 24th, there will be a discussion held by a panel of our city’s leaders in equity and education, and featuring the award winning playwright himself, Dave Harris. This compelling production is sure to generate meaningful conversations and inspire positive change within our communities.
