Pittsburgh, PA – The Jazz Workshop Inc. is proud to present “Conversations on Stanley: A Tribute to Stanley Turrentine,” an extraordinary musical event honoring the life and legacy of one of Pittsburgh’s most beloved jazz icons, Stanley Turrentine. The event will take place at the Eastridge Culture and Arts Center 1900 Graham Blvd., Wilkinsburg, PA on Saturday November 9, 2024, featuring an illustrious lineup of musicians who have shared stages, stories, and deep connections with the legendary saxophonist.
This special tribute will showcase the talents of:
Art Nance – Tenor Saxophone
Dr. Nelson Harrison – Trombone
Roger Humphries – Drums
Dr. James T. Johnson Jr. – Piano
Eric Johnson – Guitar
Paul Thompson – Bass
These esteemed musicians, who either grew up with, performed alongside, or maintained close relationships with Stanley Turrentine, will come together to perform various selections of his most memorable tunes. The evening promises not only to keep the soulful sound of Turrentine’s music within the foresight of the genre but also to provide a platform for unforgettable conversations. Audience members will have the unique opportunity to engage in a Q&A session, allowing for a deeper understanding of the man behind the music and the impact he had on those who knew him best from his Pittsburgh constituents.
