Spectrum Medical Care Center and Walgreens Partner for National HIV Testing Day, June 27
Spectrum Medical Care Center is proud to announce a partnership with Walgreens for National HIV Testing Day on June 27. This collaboration aims to provide free HIV testing and access to prevention and treatment information from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Walgreens located at 3605 E Thomas Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85018.
According to Greater Than HIV, an estimated one in seven people living with HIV in the U.S. are unaware of their status. Recent state data indicates a 20% increase in HIV cases from 2021 to 2022. And despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a consistent upward trend in HIV testing since 2020. In 2022, 79% of people diagnosed with HIV/AIDS were linked to care within 30 days of their diagnosis.
Testing is a critical first step toward ending the HIV epidemic because people who test positive have access to modern medications that suppress viral loads to the point of being undetectable and therefore untransmittable or "U = U". However overcoming the stigma and fear associated with being tested for HIV takes support from the broader community, making this event all the more important.
