DHCSM 3rd Annual Band Camp

From June 2-6, 2025, Desert Hills Community School of Music (DHCSM) will present its 3rd Annual Band Camp for wind and percussion players aged 10-16. This weeklong music skills development camp aims to help students become more proficient on their instruments, build confidence when playing with other musicians, explore new instruments and skills, and hear/interact with professional musicians. Band Camp is open to students from across the Valley and will take place amidst the stunning backdrop of the North Scottsdale boulders, on the campus of Desert Hills Presbyterian Church, 34605 N. Tom Darlington Rd., Scottsdale, Ariz. 85266. Students can choose either a half-day (9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) or full-day (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) camp program. The half-day program is $375 (or $425 if enrolling on or after May 15), while the full day is $525 ($575 on or after May 15), with lunch included Monday through Thursday for full-day campers. Scholarships are available for those in need. As a new feature this year, free transportation will be offered to and from Desert Hills Band Camp for the first 12 people who sign up for it. Core daily activities of Desert Hills Band Camp will include small and large ensembles, Jazz Ensemble, electives that stretch students’ musical skills and performances by different groups of professional musicians. One new addition to this year’s programming is a handbell class, where students will learn to ring handbells and hand chimes as a way of improving rhythm, sight-reading skills and physical coordination – all in a fun and unique ensemble setting.
