The 2025 Mini-Compassion Camp will be held on Sunday, September 21st at 11 AM, immediately following Sunday School. While children engage in hands-on science activities, yoga, and mindfulness practices, parents will attend a special workshop titled “The First Steps Toward Mindfulness.” About the Parent Workshop Speaker Dr. Scott Herrmann is a licensed psychologist in Arizona, California, and Colorado, and is PSYPACT certified to provide telepsychology services nationwide. He holds double board certification in Clinical Child/Adolescent Psychology and Police/Public Safety Psychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). A graduate of UCLA and Arizona State University, Dr. Herrmann has completed specialized fellowship training in Clinical Child Psychology at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii and advanced training in EMDR therapy. He has served as a clinician, researcher, and professor, with faculty appointments at the University of British Columbia and Northern Arizona University. With more than 30 years of experience, Dr. Herrmann is deeply committed to helping children, adolescents, and families thrive. His approach is solution-focused, blending behavioral and cognitive-behavioral methods to build resilience and equip young people with tools for lifelong growth. Event Highlights for Kids • Yoga (20 minutes): A playful session to relax, stretch, and slow down. • Mindfulness (20 minutes): Creative journaling, breathing exercises, and scripture reflections. • Science (20 minutes): Fun experiments and object lessons that connect curiosity with faith. “Our Compassion Camp is a beautiful reminder that faith, curiosity, and mindfulness go hand in hand,” said Rev. Christopher Wurpts, lead pastor at North Scottsdale UMC. “We’re especially excited this year to offer parents the chance to learn from Dr. Herrmann, whose expertise and care for families are widely respected.” North Scottsdale United Methodist Church (NSUMC) is a welcoming community committed to fostering spiritual growth, serving others, and spreading love and compassion in Scottsdale, AZ.
