2023 BlackStar Luminary Gala
BlackStar Projects will celebrate its inaugural BlackStar Luminary Gala, honoring and bringing together Black, Brown, and Indigenous luminaries in the field of art, film, and creative culture. The gala is BlackStar’s premiere fundraising event, supporting a suite of year-round cultural programming that provides Black, Brown, and Indigenous artists with the resources, support, and shine they need to thrive.
The event will be hosted by Bashir Salahuddin and Chandra Russell, known for their hilarious comedic turns as Officers Turner and Goodnight in Max’s South Side, with musical performances from BlackStar alum Laurin Talese and Durand Bernarr. The gala will also include the presentation and remarks from the 2023 BlackStar Luminary Award honorees.
2023 Honorees Include:
· Telfar Clemens (Founder of the fashion brand, TELFAR) & Babak Radboy (Artistic Director of TELFAR)
· Shannon Maldonado (Founder & Creative Director of YOWIE)
· June Givanni (Curator & Director of the June Givanni Pan African Cinema Archive)
· COUSIN Collective (Collective supporting Indigenous artists expanding the form of film)
